Description

This online course discusses the basic topics of how generators convert mechanical energy into electrical energy by electromagnetic induction.  AC generator components, the relationship between generator rotational speed and frequency, overall generator operating characteristics and principles are covered in this course.

  • Discuss the phases of the steam-water cycle
  • Describe the various generator start up procedures
  • Explain the special characteristics of steam turbine and boiler systems
  • Discuss the limitations associated with generating unit operating capacity
  • Describe the various systems found in power plant
  • Discuss the different types of nuclear generator plants
  • Explain the operation of the various hydro generation systems
  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of combustion turbines and combined cycles plants
