This 8 hour course is divided into two parts.
This course gives electrical engineers, field operations/construction, and safety specialists a comprehensive understanding of the theory and best practices of safe electrical grounding used on electric power lines and substations. Students become familiar with the concepts of “equipotential” and “single-point grounding.” Course emphasizes having students want to utilize these procedures for their own personal safety. Testing requirements and procedures for equipment readiness are discussed. All students learn to evaluate jumper expected performance and learn the common sense aspects of safe electrical grounding. Students learn to appreciate the rationale behind single point grounding, proper vehicle safety and equipment testing.
The safety concerns outlined in OSHA Ruling 1910.269 that places strict requirements and utility accountability for proper training and equipment selection are covered. This course is designed to significantly reduce the risk of serious injury accidents.
