Course: PC140: Maintenance Test Instruments and Procedures Printable version
Description

The common test instruments (i.e., Megger, Hi-Pot, Dissolved Gas Analysis, etc.) used to analyze equipment problems are explained in this course.  Examples of maintenance test procedures (i.e., batteries, earth resistivity, etc.) are discussed in this class.  Safety precautions during maintenance procedures are also discussed; such as PCB handling and Lead Awareness.

This course is part of APT's Electric Power Proficiency Certification Program.

Learning Outcomes

  • The student obtains a working knowledge of the various test instruments used in electric operations to test or verify the condition of power equipment
  • The student is able to describe the procedures used to troubleshoot typical equipment and facility problems
  • Knowledge of the maintenance instruments’ capabilities, test procedures, and troubleshooting techniques enables the student to help identify problems or verify conditions
  • The student’s awareness knowledgeable is greatly increased in potential safety hazards found with working in substation and distribution environments with PCB’s, Oil Spills, lead, corrosion, etc.
