This comprehensive intermediate-to-advanced course concentrates on the knowledge required of modern field service technicians in the telecommunications industry. This intermediate-to-advanced course starts with an overview of fiber optic network fundamentals then advances through computer hardware, operating systems, networking, routing protocols, TCP/IP and other pertinent software, hardware and network interworking concepts. The student gains an understanding of how PCs’ operate, process information and communicate over high speed data networks and peripheral devices with an emphasis on using the Windows XP and Windows 2000 Operating Systems. OSI and TCP/IP networking protocols and the operation of "routed" and "routing" protocols used to send messages over the Internet will be discussed and demonstrated. Students will also gain an understanding of the application and operation of network diagnostic tools and methodologies.
