Description

 

This course is designed to give students a working knowledge in reliable interconnected system operation.  This course covers essential advanced topics such as Area Control Error (ACE), islanding and system restoration under severe conditions that includes black start.  Simulator activities provide students the experience needed to operate real time contingency scenarios.  The essential NERC operating topics are discussed and practiced with simulators.

 

Applicable NERC standards are discussed in this course.

 

Note: Hands-On simulation training included! 

 

This course is part of APT's Electric Power Proficiency Certification Program.

 

Learning Outcomes

 

  • The student becomes better acquainted with NERC standards for normal and emergency conditions
  • Important aspects of interconnected system operations are presented to enable students to recognize potential system problems and adjust system parameters accordingly
  • Real problems and solutions are presented to give students the full perspective of the issues operating a large scale power system
  • The student gains significant experience in interconnected power system operations including islanding
