This class improves the student’s understanding of the technical issues surrounding electrical power systems. This course familiarizes participants with the common problems found in transmission and substation equipment, residential, commercial and industrial services. Maintenance practices and test equipment operations are discussed in reference to malfunctioning equipment, services and power quality.
Topics include stray voltages and currents, radio/television interference, ferro-resonance problems, electromagnetic fields, High Voltage DC transmission, motor starting, distribution networks, and the principles of Single Point Grounding.
This course is designed to help the student be more effective in providing better customer service by having an improved understanding of real electric system operations.
Note: the student should have a basic understanding of electrical power system operations or have completed APT’s “Electrical Power System Operations” course.
