Description

 
This course is designed to give students a working knowledge of basic power system calculations.  The topics include circuit analysis of integrated 3-phase power systems, High-Voltage issues, and High Current issues.  Voltage drop, fault calculations and an introduction into symmetrical components is presented for the student to be able to effectively communicate with fellow workers in the engineering and operations departments.
 
This course is part of APT's Electric Power Proficiency Certification Program.

  • Student are able to perform the necessary calculations needed for basic system designs, equipment sizing, loading, and protection
  • Service entrance equipment sizing and fault study analysis enables students to properly recommend equipment requirements
  • Load consumption analysis and power factor calculations enable students to improve load, operations, and system losses efficiency
  • The student is introduced to the advanced concepts of power system calculations to serve as a foundation for advanced learning
